The West Australian Pianists Competition started in 2001 in Perth with its first competition held at the University of Western Australia. It has grown since that year with now being recognized as a competition with very high standards and widely known among the local community.
We have also witnessed the increased numbers of competitors in our competition throughout the years and seeing that many more teachers are aware of the advantages of putting their students into a competition for their preparations towards their exams and also for others to seek a second opinion.
The top standards of performances witnessed in all the sections in the competition truly echoes the wonderful dedication of teachers in the community towards music making.
In this competition there is no set piece section but in the sections for the
grades, competitors will have to perform two contrasting own choice pieces
from the current AMEB syllabus (including the Piano for leisure). This is to
encourage students to be exposed to the idea of performing a programme of
contrasting pieces in a concert situation.
We would also like to let you know that we are further expanding our
competition to be an international event. Plans are on the way to build up rapport with associations and instituitions
in China and other parts of Asia. Let the music roll and hope all
pianists will have an enjoyable time!
