Rules and Regulations

1.                    All competitors must follow the rules and regulations set up for the competition, failing which will result in immediate disqualification.

2.                    The committee reserves the right to call upon any award winners to perform during the winners’ concert.

3.                    The committee of The West Australian Pianists Competition reserves the rights to refuse any entry, withdraw or amend any section of the competition without giving any reason for such actions.

4.                    The committee of The West Australian Pianists Competition will not be responsible for any accident or any belongings lost during the competition.

5.                    The committee regrets for any inconvenience caused by unforeseen delays during the competition.

6.                    All protests must be sent in writing and within two hours of competing in the section.  The committee will look into, deal with the matter and reply as soon as possible.  The committee’s decision with regards to any disputes and resolution of complaints is final.

7.                    The committee accepts no responsibility for public liability.

8.                    This is a competition for any pianists of any nationality, amatuers or professionals.

9.                    The adjudicator reserves the right to withdraw an award in any section or not to present any award if the standard of performance is inadequate for credit.  The adjudicator also reserves the right to use his own discretion with regards to awards presentation when the number of entries are only three or fewer.  In all cases the adjudicator’s decision is final.

10.                 All performers are encouraged to perform from memory and if one is performing using scores/scripts, the original scores/scripts must be used.  No photocopies are allowed unless for page turning purpose and in such cases the competitor must also present the originals. 

11.                 All performers in the Piano Solo Aged Group Recital sections of item nos. 24 to 27 and Piano Solo Grades Recital – Open section (item no. 9) must perform from memory. 

12.                 All pieces in the Category One - Piano Solo Grades Recital sections will have to be from the CURRENT AMEB syllabus which includes piano for leisure syllabus.

13.                 Piano Solo Grades Recital – Open section (item no. 9) is only for competitors who are presenting pieces beyond AMEB grade 8 standards but may not be from the AMEB syllabus.

14.                 Refund of entry fees can only be made if a section is cancelled.
15.
                 Time limits must be strictly adhered to.  Failure to follow this rule will result in immediate disqualification.

16.                 All works or choice of a work is allowed to be used in more than one section.  For the Category One – Piano Solo Grades Recital sections - Item nos. 0 to 9, each competitor is only allowed to participate in one section.  However, a competitor in novice section (item N) may also participate in item nos. 0 to 9 using the same pieces provided the pieces are from the CURRENT AMEB syllabus which includes piano for leisure syllabus.  See rule no. 12.

17.                 Photocopies of the music must be sent in with the entry form, for the use by the adjudicator.  Such copies will be destroyed at the end of the competition.

18.                 The order of the competitors for each section will be drawn at random after the closing date of the entries.  If a competitor is not present when called to perform during the competition, he/she will be considered to be disqualified.

19.                 Silence must be observed during performances.  All mobile phones must be switched off during performances.

20.                 No change of performance works is permitted after the closing date of entries.

21.                 All competitors, teachers and parents are not allowed to talk to the adjudicator during the competition.  Failure to observe this regulation will result in the disqualification of the competitor.

22.                 Overall presentation including appropriate dressing will be taken into account for the competition.

23.                 No photography or video recording is permitted during the competition.

24.                 Only performers will be entitled to free admission in the section they are competing in during the competition.

25.                 All competitors must arrive and report attendance for the competition 15 minutes before the start of their section.

26.                 All chosen prize winners must perform at the winners’ concert otherwise you will not be entitled to the award that you won during the competition.

27.                 The Committee reserves the rights to reallocate or make changes to the prizes before the commencement of the competition where necessary.

28.                 All under age sections are set as at 20th of June 2008.
